You’ve just designed an amazing resume on DoYouBuzz. It’s time to get recognized for your skills and achievements. Here are five really simple ways to drive traffic to your resume.
1. Include your URL in your email signature
We said it was simple! Right there next to your name and number add a line for your online resume. Here’s an example:
Johanna Castelli
Cell: 415-555-5555
Business Development Manager
Open to opportunities: www.johanna-castelli.com
If you don’t yet use an email signature, you can easily set one up in your webmail service. It’s usually in Settings.
Update: We added a cool feature so you can automatically create a professional email signature, complete with images and more. It takes just a few clicks to set up.
2. Take full advantage of your online presence
Opportunity clicks everyday. Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, Viadeo… Wherever you’ve got a profile, add your URL. You’ll build up the possible entry points for potential employers and recruiters.
Export: Create a Resume tab on your Facebook profile.
(From your resume click on “Export”, then “Facebook”.)
Badge: Stick a badge on your personal blog.
(From your resume click on “Export”, then “Badges”.)
3. Use a business card, include your URL
It’s easy to create personal business cards. In a few minutes and for just under $22 you can get 50 really classy business cards on Moo. There are less expensive options such as Vista Print and Zazzle.
Not all business cards are equal. Use a little bit of creativity to stand out. Check out this smart business card we found.
4. Be active on the web
Just think about all those blogs you stumble upon and the hundreds of articles you read on the web. All these destinations are places where you can participate.
Jump into the conversation and include your URL when commenting. (Most comment forms ask for it.) You’d be surprised at the connections you can make with others in your field.
5. Start a blog or spark a conversation
Agreed. This is not quite as easy as tweaking your email signature. But it’s nowhere near impossible.
Blog: If you’re passionate about your field, contribute your thoughts and analysis through a blog. WordPress is a good place to get started. Feeling overwhelmed by the idea of blogging? Read David Spark’s advice for « people who have no time to blog » or explore microblogging sites such as Tumblr.
Conversations: Potential colleagues and employers are exchanging all the time on the Web. Join a few LinkedIn Groups or network on Brazen Careerist.
Get creative!
As you start taking the first steps towards increasing traffic to your resume and improving your online presence, ideas will flow! Follow your own inspiration. Step outside the box. Use your creativity to set yourself apart.
